John Henry Montagu Manners, 9th Duke of Rutland was born on 21 September 1886.2 He was the son of Henry John Brinsley Manners, 8th Duke of Rutland and Marion Margaret Violet Lindsay.2 He married Kathleen Tennant, daughter of Francis John Tennant and Annie Geraldine Redmayne, on 27 January 1916.3 He died on 22 April 1940 at age 53.2
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the 4th Battalion, Leicester Regiment.2 He succeeded as the 9th Duke of Rutland [E., 1703] on 8 May 1925.2 He succeeded as the 17th Earl of Rutland [E., 1525] on 8 May 1925.2 He succeeded as the 9th Marquess of Granby, co. Nottingham [E., 1703] on 8 May 1925.2 He succeeded as the 9th Lord Manners of Haddon [E., 1679] on 8 May 1925.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Roos of Belvior, co. Anne Bairstow Cumming Bell was the daughter of Major William Cumming Bell and Joan Middlemost Bairstow.2,3 She married Charles John Robert Manners, 10th Duke of Rutland, son of John Henry Montagu Manners, 9th Duke of Rutland and Kathleen Tennant, on 27 April 1946.2 She and Charles John Robert Manners, 10th Duke of Rutland were divorced in 1956.2 She died on 27 December 2002.2
After her marriage, Anne Bairstow Cumming Bell was styled as Duchess of Rutland on 27 April 1946. From 27 April 1946, her married name became Manners.
