     Robert Andrew Woolley was born on 17 February 1847.1 He was the son of Robert Woolley and Isabella Jane Agnes (?)1 He was baptised on 23 May 1848.1 He married Ellen Charlotte Hornby, daughter of Charles Hornby, on 7 May 1870 at South Africa.1
     He gained the rank of Ensign in 1865 in the 20th Regiment.1 He retired from the military in 1872, late of the 20th Regiment.1
