     Jane Maitland was the daughter of Captain Thomas Maitland. She married, firstly, John Leslie, 11th Earl of Rothes, son of John Leslie, 10th Earl of Rothes and Hannah Howard, on 4 April 1768.² She married, secondly, Hon. Patrick Maitland, son of Charles Maitland, 6th Earl of Lauderdale and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy, on 24 September 1774.¹
     From 4 April 1768, her married name became Hamilton.² After her marriage, Jane Maitland was styled as Countess of Rothes on 4 August 1768. From 24 September 1774, her married name became Maitland.

     Captain Thomas Maitland lived at Soutra, East Lothian, Scotland^G.

     Hon. Patrick Maitland was born on 10 April 1734.¹ He was the son of Charles Maitland, 6th Earl of Lauderdale and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy.² He married Jane Maitland, daughter of Captain Thomas Maitland, on 24 September 1774.¹ He died on 19 May 1797 at age 63.¹
     He lived at Freugh, Wigtownshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Jane Elizabeth Leslie, Countess of Rothes was born on 5 May 1750.¹ She was the daughter of John Leslie, 10th Earl of Rothes and Hannah Howard.¹ She married, firstly, George Raymond Evelyn, son of William Evelyn-Glanville and Bridget Raymond, on 2 January 1766.³ She married, secondly, Sir Lucas Pepys, 1st Bt., son of William Pepys and Hannah Russell, on 31 October 1772 at Brighton, Sussex, England^G.⁴ She died on 2 June 1810 at age 60 at Upper Brook Street, London, England^G.¹
     From 2 January 1766, her married name became Evelyn. From 31 October 1772, her married name became Pepys. She succeeded as the 12th Countess of Rothes [S., 1458] on 18 July 1773.¹ She succeeded as the 12th Lady Leslie [S., 1445] on 18 July 1773.⁵ Her sucession was unsuccessfully disputed by her unncle, Andrew Leslie.⁶

     George Raymond Evelyn was the son of William Evelyn-Glanville and Bridget Raymond.¹ He married Jane Elizabeth Leslie, Countess of Rothes, daughter of John Leslie, 10th Earl of Rothes and Hannah Howard, on 2 January 1766.¹ He died on 23 December 1770.^1,2

     William Evelyn-Glanville was born in 1686.¹ He was the son of George Evelyn and Frances Broomhall.¹ He married, secondly, Bridget Raymond, daughter of Hugh Raymond.¹ He married, firstly, Frances Glanville, daughter of William Glanville.¹
     He was given the name of William Evelyn at birth.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Clere.² He was also known as Evelyn Glanvile.² He lived at St. Clere, Kent, England^G.¹

     Sir Lucas Pepys, 1st Bt. was born on 26 May 1742.² He was also reported to have been born on 24 May 1741.³ He was the son of William Pepys and Hannah Russell.^4,1 He was baptised on 8 June 1742 at St. Mary’s Church, Woolnoth, London, England^G.¹ He married, firstly, Jane Elizabeth Leslie, Countess of Rothes, daughter of John Leslie, 10th Earl of Rothes and Hannah Howard, on 31 October 1772 at Brighton, Sussex, England^G.¹ He married, secondly, Deborah Askew, daughter of Anthony Askew and Elizabeth Holford, on 29 June 1813 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England^G.⁵ He died on 17 June 1830 at age 88 at Park Street, Grosvenor Square, London, England^G.⁵ His will was proven (by probate) in July 1830.⁵

     Nancy Tennant was born on 20 August 1904.³ She was the daughter of Sir Charles Clow Tennant of The Glen, 1st Bt. and Marguerite Agaranthe Miles.³ She married, firstly, Sylvester Govett Gates, son of Walter George Gates, on 16 February 1928.³ She and Sylvester Govett Gates were divorced in 1936.³ She married, secondly, Major Thomas Lionel Dugdale, 1st Baron Crathorne, son of Captain James Lionel Dugdale and Maud Violet Woodroffe, on 22 September 1936.¹ She died on 17 May 1969 at age 64.¹
     From 16 February 1928, her married name became Gates. From 22 September 1936, her married name became Dugdale. After her marriage, Nancy Tennant was styled as Baroness Crathorne on 15 July 1959. She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1961.¹

     Thomas Pelham, 2nd Earl of Chichester was born on 28 April 1756 at Spring Gardens, London, England^G.³ He was the son of Thomas Pelham, 1st Earl of Chichester and Anne Frankland.¹ He was baptised on 26 May 1756 at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Covent Garden, London, England^G.³ He married Lady Mary Henrietta Juliana Osborne, daughter of Francis Godolphin Osborne, 5th Duke of Leeds and Lady Amelia Darcy, on 16 July 1801 at Lambeth Palace, Lambeth, London, England^G.³ He died on 4 July 1826 at age 70 at Stratton Street, London, England^G.³ His will was proven (by probate) in October 1826.³
