     Major Augustus Wathen was the son of Major unknown Wathen.¹ He married Elizabeth Jane Evelyn-Leslie, daughter of George William Evelyn-Leslie, 13th Earl of Rothes and Charlotte Julia Campbell, on 16 December 1830.¹ He died on 3 May 1843.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the 15th Hussars.¹
