William Frederick Danvers Smith, 2nd Viscount Hambleden was born on 12 August 1868.2 He was the son of Rt. Hon. William Henry Smith and Emily Danvers, Viscountess Hambleden.3 He married Lady Esther Georgiana Caroline Gore, daughter of Arthur Saunders William Charles Fox Gore, 5th Earl of Arran of the Arran Islands and Lady Edith Elizabeth Henrietta Jocelyn, on 26 July 1894.4 He died on 16 June 1928 at age 59.2
He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Strand between 1891 and 1910.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Devon.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Hambleden, of Hambleden, co. Buckingham [U.K., 1891] on 13 August 1913.2 He was appointed Knight of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.G.St.J.)2 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the 96th (Devon Yeo) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery (TA.)2
