Peerage Record – 1592

     Captain Robert Manners was born on 6 February 1758.¹ He was the son of John Manners, Marquess of Granby and Lady Frances Seymour.¹ He died after 12 April 1782, from tetanus after losing his leg in action.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1778 in the Royal Navy.¹ He fought in the Battle of Ushant on 27 July 1778.¹ He fought in the Battle of Cape St. Vincent in 1779.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1780.¹ He fought in the Battle of Cape Henry on 5 September 1781.¹ He fought in the Battle of Dominica on 12 April 1782, where he lost a leg.¹

     Helen Anstruther was born before 1740. She was the daughter of Sir Alexander Anstruther and Jean Leslie, Baroness Newark. She married Rev. Dr. John Chalmers on 6 June 1743 at St. Monance, Fife, Scotland.¹
     From 6 June 1743, her married name became Chalmers.¹

     Sir Alexander Anstruther was the son of Sir Philip Anstruther and Christian Lumsden.¹ He married Jean Leslie, Baroness Newark, daughter of David Leslie, 2nd Lord Newark and Elizabeth Stewart, on 8 March 1694.² He died in 1743.¹

     Jean Leslie, Baroness Newark was the daughter of David Leslie, 2nd Lord Newark and Elizabeth Stewart. She married Sir Alexander Anstruther, son of Sir Philip Anstruther and Christian Lumsden, on 8 March 1694.¹ She died on 21 February 1740.¹
     She gained the title of 3rd Baroness Newark. From 8 March 1694, her married name became Anstruther.¹

     Lady Frances Manners was born on 2 December 1630.² She was the daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland and Hon. Frances Montagu.^1,2 She married John Cecil, 4th Earl of Exeter, son of David Cecil, 3rd Earl of Exeter and Lady Elizabeth Egerton, on 8 December 1646.¹ She died on 2 December 1660 at age 30.²
     Her married name became Cecil.

     John Cecil, 4th Earl of Exeter was born in 1628.¹ He was the son of David Cecil, 3rd Earl of Exeter and Lady Elizabeth Egerton.¹ He married, firstly, Lady Frances Manners, daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland and Hon. Frances Montagu, on 8 December 1646.¹ He married, secondly, Lady Mary Fane, daughter of Mildmay Fane, 2nd Earl of Westmorland and Hon. Mary de Vere, on 24 January 1669/70.¹ He died on 18 March 1677/78.¹
     He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Exeter [E., 1605] on 18 April 1643.¹ He succeeded as the 5th Baron of Burghley, co. Northampton [E., 1571] on 18 April 1643.¹

     Lady Grace Manners was born in 1632 at Haddon, Derbyshire, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland and Hon. Frances Montagu.¹ She married, firstly, Patrick Chaworth, 3rd Viscount Chaworth of Armagh, son of John Chaworth, 2nd Viscount Chaworth of Armagh and Hon. Elizabeth Noel, before 1666. She married, secondly, Sir William Langhorne, 1st and last Bt., son of William Langhorne and Mary Oxenbridge, after 1693.¹ She died on 15 February 1699/0.¹ She was buried on 24 February 1699/0 at Charlton, Kent, England^G.¹
     Her married name became Chaworth. From after 1693, her married name became Langhorne.¹

     Lady Margaret Manners was the daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland and Hon. Frances Montagu.^1,2 She married James Cecil, 3rd Earl of Salisbury, son of Charles Cecil, Viscount Cranborne and Lady Diana Maxwell, circa 1665.¹ She died before 30 August 1682.¹
     From circa 1665, her married name became Cecil. After her marriage, Lady Margaret Manners was styled as Countess of Salisbury on 3 December 1668.

     Lady Dorothy Manners was the daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland and Hon. Frances Montagu.¹ She married Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 2nd Earl of Shaftesbury, son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury and Lady Frances Cecil, on 22 September 1669.¹ She died in June 1698.¹
     Her married name became Ashley-Cooper. After her marriage, Lady Dorothy Manners was styled as Countess of Shaftesbury on 21 January 1683.

     Lady Elizabeth Manners was the daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland and Hon. Frances Montagu.¹ She married James Annesley, 2nd Earl of Anglesey, son of Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Anglesey and Elizabeth Altham, on 17 September 1669.² She died on 7 December 1700, from breast cancer.¹ She was buried on 10 December 1700 at St. James’s, Westminster, London, England^G.³ Her will was proven (by probate) on 20 January 1700/1.³
     Her married name became Annesley. After her marriage, Lady Elizabeth Manners was styled as Countess of Anglesey on 6 April 1686. Her last will was dated 10 February 1699/0.
