Captain Robert Manners1

Captain Robert Manners was born on 6 February 1758.1 He was the son of John Manners, Marquess of Granby and Lady Frances Seymour.1 He died after 12 April 1782, from tetanus after losing his leg in action.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1778 in the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the Battle of Ushant on 27 July 1778.1 He fought in the Battle of Cape St. Vincent in 1779.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1780.1 He fought in the Battle of Cape Henry on 5 September 1781.1 He fought in the Battle of Dominica on 12 April 1782, where he lost a leg.1

Lady Dorothy Manners1

Lady Dorothy Manners was the daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland and Hon. Frances Montagu.1 She married Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 2nd Earl of Shaftesbury, son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury and Lady Frances Cecil, on 22 September 1669.1 She died in June 1698.1
Her married name became Ashley-Cooper. After her marriage, Lady Dorothy Manners was styled as Countess of Shaftesbury on 21 January 1683.
