     Barbara Webb was the daughter of Sir John Webb, 5th Bt. and Mary Salvain.¹ She married Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 5th Earl of Shaftesbury, son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 4th Earl of Shaftesbury and Hon. Mary Bouverie, on 17 July 1786.³
     After her marriage, Barbara Webb was styled as Countess of Shaftesbury on 17 July 1786. From 17 July 1786, her married name became Ashley-Cooper.

     Sir John Webb, 5th Bt. was the son of Sir Thomas Webb, 4th Bt. and Anne Gibson. He married Mary Salvain, daughter of Thomas Salvain.
     He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Webb, of Odstock House, Wiltshire [E., 1644] on 29 June 1763.

     Mary Salvain is the daughter of Thomas Salvain.¹ She married Sir John Webb, 5th Bt., son of Sir Thomas Webb, 4th Bt. and Anne Gibson.
     Her married name became Webb.

     Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury was born on 26 February 1670/71.² He was the son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 2nd Earl of Shaftesbury and Lady Dorothy Manners.² He married Jane Ewer, daughter of Thomas Ewer, on 29 August 1709.² He died on 15 February 1712/13 at age 41 at Naples, Italy.²
     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Poole between 1695 and 1698.² He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury [E., 1672] on 10 November 1699.² He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Cooper of Pawlett, co. Somerset [E., 1661] on 10 November 1699.² He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Ashley of Wimborne St. Giles, co. Dorset [E., 1661] on 10 November 1699.² He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Cooper, of Rockbourne, Hampshire [E., 1622] on 10 November 1699.² He held the office of Vice-Admiral of Dorset from 1701 to 1702.² He wrote the book Characteristics of Men, Manners, Opinions, Times, published 1711.² He wrote the book Second Characters, published 1914.²

     Jane Ewer was the daughter of Thomas Ewer.¹ She married Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury, son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 2nd Earl of Shaftesbury and Lady Dorothy Manners, on 29 August 1709.¹ She died on 23 November 1751.¹
     After her marriage, Jane Ewer was styled as Countess of Shaftesbury on 29 August 1709. From 29 August 1709, her married name became Ashley-Cooper.

     Thomas Ewer lived at Bushey Hall, Hertfordshire, England.¹ He lived at the Leas, Watford, Hertfordshire, England.¹

     Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 4th Earl of Shaftesbury was born on 9 February 1710/11.¹ He was the son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury and Jane Ewer.¹ He married, firstly, Lady Susan Noel, daughter of Baptist Noel, 3rd Earl of Gainsborough and Lady Dorothy Manners, on 12 March 1724.² He married, secondly, Hon. Mary Bouverie, daughter of Jacob des Bouverie, 1st Viscount Folkestone and Mary Clarke, on 20 March 1759.¹ He died on 27 May 1771 at age 60.¹
     He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Cooper, of Rockbourne, Hampshire [E., 1622] on 15 February 1712/13.¹ He succeeded as the 4th Baron Ashley of Wimborne St. Giles, co. Dorset [E., 1661] on 15 February 1712/13.¹ He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Shaftesbury [E., 1672] on 15 February 1712/13.¹ He succeeded as the 4th Baron Cooper of Pawlett, co. Somerset [E., 1661] on 15 February 1712/13.¹ He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.¹ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset from March 1734/35 to 1771.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1754.¹ He held the office of Recorder of Shaftesbury in 1756.¹ He held the office of High Steward for Dorchester in 1757.¹ He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1761 in the Dorset Militia.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1761.¹ He was governor of the Levant Company between 1766 and 1771.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) in 1767.¹

     Hon. Mary Bouverie was born in 1730.² She was the daughter of Jacob des Bouverie, 1st Viscount Folkestone and Mary Clarke.¹ She married Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 4th Earl of Shaftesbury, son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury and Jane Ewer, on 20 March 1759.³ She died on 12 November 1804.¹
     From 20 March 1759, her married name became Ashley-Cooper. After her marriage, Hon. Mary Bouverie was styled as Countess of Shaftesbury on 20 March 1759.

     Lady Susan Noel was born in 1710.² She was the daughter of Baptist Noel, 3rd Earl of Gainsborough and Lady Dorothy Manners.¹ She married Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 4th Earl of Shaftesbury, son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury and Jane Ewer, on 12 March 1724.¹ She died on 20 June 1758, without issue.³
     From 12 March 1724, her married name became Ashley-Cooper. After her marriage, Lady Susan Noel was styled as Countess of Shaftesbury on 12 March 1724.

     Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury was born on 28 April 1801.² He was the son of Cropley Ashley-Cooper, 6th Earl of Shaftesbury and Lady Anne Spencer.² He married Lady Emily Caroline Catherine Frances Cowper, daughter of Peter Leopold Louis Francis Nassau Cowper, 5th Earl Cowper and Hon. Emily Mary Lamb, on 10 June 1830.³ He died on 1 October 1885 at age 84.²
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.² He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Woodstock between 1826 and 1830.² He was Commissioner of Indian Affairs between 1828 and 1830.² He was Metropolitan Lunancy Commissioner between 1828 and 1885.² He was chairman of the Lunancy Commission between 1829 and 1885.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dorchester between 1830 and 1831.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dorset between 1831 and 1846.² He held the office of a Lord of the Admiralty between 1834 and 1835.² He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1841 with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)² He was president of the Statistical Society between 1843 and 1845.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bath between 1846 and 1851.² He was member of the General Board of Health between 1848 and 1854.² He was chairman of the British and Foreign Bible Society between 1851 and 1885.² He succeeded as the 7th Baron Cooper of Pawlett, co.
