William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Devonshire was born on 25 January 1640/41.1 He was the son of William Cavendish, 3rd Earl of Devonshire and Lady Elizabeth Cecil.1 He married Lady Mary Butler, daughter of James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde and Elizabeth Preston, Baroness Dingwall, on 26 October 1662.1 He died on 18 August 1707 at age 66.1
He succeeded as the 4th Baron Cavendish of Hardwick, co. James Butler, 2nd Duke of Ormonde1

James Butler, 2nd Duke of Ormonde was born on 29 April 1665.1 He was the son of Thomas Butler, 6th Earl of Ossory and Lady Amelia de Nassau.1 He married, firstly, Lady Anne Hyde, daughter of Laurence Hyde, 1st Earl of Rochester and Lady Henrietta Boyle, on 20 July 1682.1 He married, secondly, Lady Mary Somerset, daughter of Henry Somerset, 1st Duke of Beaufort and Mary Capell, on 3 August 1685 at St. Michael’s, Great Badminton, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.3 He died on 16 November 1745 at age 80, in exile.
He succeeded as the 7th Earl of Ossory [I., 1528] on 30 July 1680.4 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Butler of Moore Park, co. Hertford [E., 1666] on 30 July 1680.5 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1683 in the Regiment of Horse.4 He was a practising Middle Temple in February 1682/83, barrister-at-law.4 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Dingwall, of co.
