He was commissioned in 1690 with the rank of officer, in the service of the French Military.1 He was Colonel Proprietor of the Dillon Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Maréchal de Camp in 1705.1 He held the office of Governor of Toulon.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1706 in the French Army.1 He was awarded the Commander, Order of St. Louis of France.1 He was created Comte Dillon [France] in 1711, by King Louis XIV.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1715 Jacobite.1 He gained the title of Earl Dillon [England] on 24 June 1721, Jacobite.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of Nationary Biography.3

Joan Scott, Viscountess Canning of Kilbrahan1 
She was also known as Joanna.4 From 8 July 1800, her married name became Canning. She allegedly brought her husband a fortune of £100,000.4 She was created 1st Viscountess Canning of Kilbrahan, co. Kilkenny [U.K.] on 22 January 1828, with special remainder to the male heirs of her late husband.1
