Rt. Rev. Hon. Shute Barrington was born on 26 May 1734 at Beckett, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He was the son of John Barrington, 1st Viscount Barrington of Ardglass and Anne Daines.1 He married, firstly, Lady Diana Beauclerk, daughter of Charles Beauclerk, 2nd Duke of Saint Albans and Lucy Werden, on 2 February 1761.3 He married, secondly, Jane Guise, daughter of Sir John Guise, 4th Bt. and Jane Saunders, on 20 June 1770.3 He died on 25 March 1826 at age 91 at Cavendish Square, Soho, London, EnglandG, without issue.1,3
He graduated with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)4 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 21 January 1755 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)3 He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 10 October 1757 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He held the office of Bishop of Llandaff in 1769.1 He held the office of Bishop of Salisbury in 1782.1 He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)4 He held the office of Bishop of Durham between 1791 and 1826.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3

William Ponsonby, 2nd Earl of Bessborough was born in 1704.1 He was the son of Brabazon Ponsonby, 1st Earl of Bessborough and Sarah Margetson.1 He married Lady Caroline Cavendish, daughter of William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire and Catherine Hoskins, on 5 July 1739.1 He died on 11 March 1793.1 He was buried at All Saints Church, Derby, Derbyshire, EnglandG.1 His will was proven (by probate) on 18 July 1793.3
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Newtonards [Ireland] between 1725 and 1727.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for County Kilkenny [Ireland] between 1727 and 1758.1 He held the office of Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland between 1741 and 1744.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) Mrs Hervey recorded that “Lord Bessborough is here, who can never grow better or worse, or other than he is; it is incredible what nonsense he talks.”1
