John Cust, 1st Earl Brownlow was born on 19 June 1779.1 He was the son of Brownlow Cust, 1st Baron Brownlow of Belton and Frances Bankes.1 He married, firstly, Amelia Sophia Hume, daughter of Sir Abraham Hume, 2nd Bt. and Lady Amelia Egerton, on 24 July 1810 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, EnglandG.1 He married, secondly, Caroline Fludyer, daughter of George Fludyer and Lady Mary Fane, on 22 September 1818 at Ayston, Rutland, EnglandG.1 He married, thirdly, Lady Emma Sophia Edgcumbe, daughter of Richard Edgcumbe, 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and Lady Sophia Hobart, on 17 July 1828 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, EnglandG.1 He died on 15 September 1853 at age 74 at Belton, Lincolnshire, EnglandG.1 His will was proven (by probate) in November 1853.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1797.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1801 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) on 7 May 1801.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Clitheroe between 1802 and 1807.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 2 May 1805.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Brownlow of Belton, co. Lincoln [G.B., 1776] on 25 December 1807.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire between 1809 and 1852.1 He was created 1st Viscount Alford of Alford, co. Lincoln [U.K.] on 17 November 1815.1 He was created 1st Earl Brownlow [U.K.] on 17 November 1815.1 He held the office of Recorder of Boston in 1820.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Hanoverian Order (G.C.H.) in 1834.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 10 June 1834.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, on 6 July 1835.1 He held the office of President of the Royal Archaeological Society between 1841 and 1849.1

Elizabeth Pelham was born in 1681.2 She was the daughter of Thomas Pelham, 1st Baron Pelham of Laughton and Elizabeth Jones.3 She married Charles Townshend, 2nd Viscount Townshend of Raynham, son of Horatio Townshend, 1st Viscount Townshend of Raynham and Mary Ashe, on 3 July 1698.1 She died on 11 May 1711.1
From 3 July 1698, her married name became Townshend. After her marriage, Hon. Elizabeth Pelham was styled as Viscountess Townshend of Raynham on 3 July 1698.

Dorothy Walpole was born on 18 September 1686.2 She was the daughter of Robert Walpole and Mary Burwell.3 She married Charles Townshend, 2nd Viscount Townshend of Raynham, son of Horatio Townshend, 1st Viscount Townshend of Raynham and Mary Ashe, before 25 July 1713.4 She died on 29 March 1726 at age 39.4
From before 25 July 1713, her married name became Townshend. After her marriage, Dorothy Walpole was styled as Viscountess Townshend of Raynham before 25 July 1713.
