Frances Jones

Frances Jones was born in 1665.1 She was the daughter of Sir Henry Jones and Frances (?) She married Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarbrough, son of Hon. John Lumley and Mary Compton.2 She died in 1722.1
After her marriage, Frances Jones was styled as Viscountess Lumley of Waterford. Her married name became Lumley. After her marriage, Frances Jones was styled as Countess of Scarbrough on 15 April 1690.

Richard Lumley, 2nd Earl of Scarbrough was born circa 1688.2 He was the son of Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarbrough and Frances Jones.2 He died on 29 January 1739/40, unmarried, after shooting himself in the mouth, possibly through a mental disorder from a knock on the head in a carriage accident a few days earlier, or alternatively because he was due a few days later to marry Isabella, widow of the 1st Duke of Montagu.2
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at King’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for East Grinstead between 1708 and 1710.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Arundel between 1710 and 1715.2 He fought in the Jacobite Uprising in 1715, against the Jacobites.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Lumley, of Lumley Castle [E., 1681] on 4 March 1714/15, in his father’s lifetime.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland between 1721 and 1740.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Lumley of Waterford [I., 1628] on 17 December 1721.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Scarbrough [E., 1690] on 17 December 1721.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Lumley [E., 1689] on 17 December 1721.2 He was Colonel of the Coldstream Guards between 1722 and 1740.2 He was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.) in 1724.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1727.2 He was Master of Horse between 1727 and 1734.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1735.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1739.2
