William Ker, 2nd Earl of Roxburghe1 
He was given the name of William Drummond at birth.4 He was a Royalist during the Civil War.3 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Scots Brigade in Holland.3 In 1650 his name was legally changed to William Ker.4 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Ker of Cessford and Caverton [S., 1616] on 18 January 1649/50, under the terms of his grandfather’s deed.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Roxburghe [S., 1616] on 18 January 1649/50, under the terms of his grandfather’s deed.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Roxburghe [S., 1600] on 18 January 1649/50, under the terms of his grandfather’s deed.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) James Lindsay, 5th Earl of Balcarres1 
He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.1 In 1715 he joined his father in the Rising of 1715, acted with great gallantry, and was then pardoned.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 2nd or Royal North British Regiment of Dragoons (Scots Greys.)1 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Lindsay of Balcarres [S., 1633] on 25 July 1736. He succeeded as the 5th Lord Lindsay and Balneil [S., 1651] on 25 July 1736. He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Balcarres [S., 1651] on 25 July 1736.1 He fought in the Battle of Dettingen in 1743, where he commanded a squadron.1 He fought in the Battle of Fontenoy on 30 April 1745.1
His daughter Anne describes him as “an accomplished gentleman, a reasoning philosopher, a judicious farmer, and a warm partisan.”1

Anne Dalrymple1 
From 24 October 1749, her married name became Lindsay. After her marriage, Anne Dalrymple was styled as Countess of Balcarres on 24 October 1749.
Her daughter Anne describes her as “fair, blooming, and lively; her beauty and embonpoint charmed my dear, tall, lean, majestic father… She had worth, honour, activity, good sense, good spirits, economy, justice, friendship, generosity—everyhting, but softness.”1
