(Whig) for Ayrshire between 1754 and 1761.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel between 1757 and 1763 in the 21st Dragoons.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2nd Dragoon Guards.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1781.2 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Tarrinzean and Mauchline [S., 1633] on 27 April 1782.1 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Campbell of Loudoun [S., 1601] on 27 April 1782.1 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Loudoun [S., 1633] on 27 April 1782.1
