He fought in the Battle of Sheriffmuir, where he roused the Macdonalds from dismay at the fall of the Captain of Clanranald, by springing forward, throwing his bonnet in the air, and crying ‘Revenge! Revenge! Revenge today and mourning tomorrow,’ these words firing the Macdonalds on to victory.2 He was created 1st Lord Macdonell [Scotland] on 9 December 1716, Jacobite.1 Before 1720 he submitted to General Cadogan at Inverness.2
