     Ranald Macdonald, 1st of Benbecula was the son of Allan Macdonald, 9th of Clanranald and Moidart and Janet Maclean.2 He married, firstly, Maria Macdonald, daughter of Ranald Macdonald of Somerbie.2 He married, thirdly, Margaret (?)2 He married, fifthly, Margaret Macdonald, daughter of Angus Macdonald of Dunnyveg and the Glens.2 He married, fourthly, Mary Macdonald, daughter of Archibald Macdonald and Margaret Macdonald.2 He married, secondly, Fionnsgoth Burke circa 1601.2 He died in 1636 at Canna, ScotlandG.2
     In 1625 he got a charter from his nephew John, 12th Chief.2
