(Whig) for County Clackmannan between 1824 and 1826.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1826 in the 3rd Dragoons.1 He gained the rank of Colonel.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Clackmannanshire between 1830 and 1831.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Stirlingshire between 1838 and 1841.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire between 1840 and 1852.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Clackmannanshire and Kinross between 1841 and 1842.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Abercromby of Aboukir and Tullibody, co. Clackmannan [U.K., 1801] on 15 February 1843. He suffered from blindness.2

Colonel Sir Alexander Penrose Cumming-Gordon of Altyre, 1st Bt.1 
He was given the name of Alexander Cumming at birth.3 He was commissioned in 1794 with the rank of officer, in the service of the 13th Regiment.3 His name was legally changed to Alexander Gordon-Cumming under the terms of the will of Sir William Gordon of Gordonstoun, 1st Bt.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Strathspey Fencibles.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Inverness Burghs.3
He suppressed a mutiny at Dumfries.3 He was created 1st Baronet Gordon-Cumming, of Altyre and of Gordonstoun, co. Moray [U.K.] on 21 May 1804.3 He lived at Altyre, Morayshire, ScotlandG.4 He lived at Gordonstoun, ScotlandG.4
