Henry Douglas, Earl of Drumlanrig1

Henry Douglas, Earl of Drumlanrig was born on 30 October 1722.1 He was the son of Charles Douglas, 3rd Duke of Queensberry and Lady Catherine Hyde.1 He married Lady Elizabeth Hope, daughter of John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun and Lady Anne Ogilvy, on 24 July 1754.3 He died on 19 October 1754 at age 31, killed accidentally when he shot himself with one of his own pistols.1
He was styled as Earl of Drumlanrig between 1722 and 1754.1 He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 Circa 1744 he soldiered in Italy.1

John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun1

John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun was born on 7 September 1704.1 He was the son of Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun and Lady Henrietta Johnstone.1 He was baptised on 15 September 1704 at Abercorn, West Lothian, ScotlandG.3 He married, firstly, Lady Anne Ogilvy, daughter of James Ogilvy, 5th Earl of Findlater and Lady Elizabeth Hay, on 14 September 1733.1 He married, secondly, Jane Oliphant, daughter of Robert Oliphant and Jean Colville, on 30 October 1762.1 He married, thirdly, Lady Elizabeth Leslie, daughter of Alexander Leslie, 7th Earl of Leven and Hon. Elizabeth Monypenny, on 10 June 1767.4 He died on 12 February 1781 at age 76.1
He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Hopetoun [S., 1703] on 26 February 1742.5 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Hope [S., 1703] on 26 February 1742.5 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount of Aithrie [S., 1703] on 26 February 1742.5 He held the office of a Lord of Police [Scotland] between 1744 and 1760.5 In 1747 he was appointed Curator Bonis (Trustee in Lunacy) for his half-uncle, 4th Earl of Annandale and Hartfell.1 He held the office of Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1754.5

He was styled as Viscount Drumlanrig.1 He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant between 1887 and 1893 in the 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards.1 He was Assistant Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary between 1892 and 1894.2 He held the office of a Lord in Waiting between 1893 and 1894.1 He was created 1st Baron Kelhead, of Kelhead, co. Dumfries [U.K.] on 22 June 1893.1 On his death, his UK barony became extinct.1
