Lady Catherine Hyde was born in 1701.2 She was the daughter of Henry Hyde, 4th Earl of Clarendon and Jane Leveson-Gower.1 She married Charles Douglas, 3rd Duke of Queensberry, son of James Douglas, 2nd Duke of Queensberry and Mary Boyle, on 10 March 1720.1 She died in 1777.2
From 10 March 1719/20, her married name became Douglas. After her marriage, Lady Catherine Hyde was styled as Duchess of Queensberry on 10 March 1719/20.

John Sholto Douglas, 9th Marquess of Queensberry was born on 20 July 1844 at Italy.2 He was the son of Archibald William Douglas, 8th Marquess of Queensberry and Caroline Margaret Clayton.2 He married, firstly, Sibyl Montgomery, daughter of Alfred Montgomery, on 26 February 1866.2 He and Sibyl Montgomery were divorced in 1887.2 He married, secondly, Ethel Weeden, daughter of Edward Charles Weeden, on 7 November 1893.2 He and Ethel Weeden were divorced in 1894.2 He died on 31 January 1900 at age 55 at London, England.2
He succeeded as the 11th Viscount of Drumlanrig [S., 1628] on 6 August 1858.3 He succeeded as the 11th Lord Douglas of Hawick and Tibberis [S., 1628] on 6 August 1858.3 He succeeded as the 8th Baronet Douglas, of Kelhead [N.S., 1667] on 6 August 1858.3 He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Queensberry [S., 1633] on 6 August 1858.3 He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Drumlanrig and Sanchar [S., 1681] on 6 August 1858.3 He succeeded as the 9th Marquess of Queensberry [S., 1681] on 6 August 1858.3 He succeeded as the 9th Lord Douglas of Kinmouth, Midlebie, and Dornock [S., 1681] on 6 August 1858.3 He succeeded as the 9th Viscount of Nith, Torthorwald and Ross [S., 1681] on 6 August 1858.3 He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He retired from the military in 1864, with the rank of Lieutenant, late of the Royal Navy.2 In 1867 the Queensbury rules for boxing were named after him – he was allegedly one of the best amateur boxers of the day.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Dumfries-shire Rifle Volunteers.2 He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1872 and 1880.2 He wrote the book The Spirit of the Matterhorn, published 1881.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dumfries-shire.2 His marriage to Ethel Weeden was annulled in 1894.2
