(Whig) for Wendover between 1818 and 1820.1 He was Colonel of the Royal Buckinghamshire Militia.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Buckinghamshire between 1820 and 1821.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for High Wycombe between 1831 and 1838.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Carrington of Bulcot Lodge [I., 1796] on 18 September 1838.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Carrington of Upton, co. Notts [G.B., 1797] on 18 September 1838.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire between 1839 and 1868.1,2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 14 February 1839.2 On 26 August 1839 his name was legally changed to Robert John Carrington by Royal Licence.6
