He was educated at Sedbergh School, Sedbergh, Cumbria, EnglandG.1 He was educated at King’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1943.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Artillery and Intelligence Corps.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1945.1 He was Chief Personnel Officer for Briitsh Overseas Airways Corporation between 1947 and 1955.1 He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.1 He was chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland between 1971 and 1976.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1976.1 He was chairman of Williams and Glyn Bank between 1976 and 1978.1 He lived in 1984 at Broomfield, Moniavive, Thornhill, Dumfries-shire, ScotlandG.1
