He gained the rank of Major between 1767 and 1798 in the Royal Cheshire Militia.2 He was educated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) in 1788.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Wootton Basset between 1790 and 1796.2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)2 He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Stanley, of Alderley [E., 1660] on 29 November 1807.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Anglesey in 1809.2 He was created 1st Baron Stanley of Alderley, co. Chester [U.K.] on 9 May 1839.2

Charles Robert Wynn-Carington, 1st and last Marquess of Lincolnshire was born on 16 May 1843 at Whitehall, London, EnglandG.3,4 He was the son of Robert John Carrington, 2nd Baron Carrington of Upton and Hon. Charlotte Augusta Annabella Drummond-Willoughby.3,5 He married Hon. Cecilia Margaret Harbord, daughter of Charles Harbord, 5th Baron Suffield and Cecilia Annetta Baring, on 15 July 1878 at Royal Chapel, Whitehall, London, EnglandG.3,4 He died on 13 June 1928 at age 85 at Daws Hill House, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, EnglandG, without surviving male issue.3,6 He was buried on 16 June 1928 at Mulsoe, Buckinghamshire, EnglandG.6
