Sir John Call, 1st Bt. was born on 30 June 1732 at Fenny Park, Tiverton, Devon, EnglandG.3 He was the son of John Call and Jane Mill.4,3 He married Philadelphia Battie, daughter of Dr. William Battie and Anne Goode, on 28 March 1772 at St. George’s Church, Bloomsbury, London, EnglandG.3 He died on 1 March 1801 at age 68 at Old Burlington Street, London, EnglandG, from apoplexy.3
In 1749 he left for India.3 He was secretary to Benjamin Robins, Chief Engineer of the East India Company’s Settlements in 1749.3 He was Chief Engineer for Fort St. David in 1751 at Fort St. David, India.3 He was Chief Engineer for Madras in 1757 at Madras, IndiaG.3 He was Accountant-General of the Madras Presidency in 1762.3 He held the office of Sheriff of Cornwall from 1771 to 1772.3 He was a partner with Messrs Pybus & Company, a London banking house in 1784.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Callington between 1784 and 1801.3 He was created 1st Baronet Call, of Whiteford, co.
