Captain Sir William Hoste, 1st Bt.1 
He gained the rank of Midshipman in April 1793 in the Royal Navy, as captain’s servant to Nelson on board H.M.S. Agamemnon.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1798.1 He was educated at Paston School, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1802.1 He fought in the Battle of Lissa in 1811, where he defeated Commodore Bernard Bubourdieu’s squadron of 7 frigates, with only 4 frigates.1 He was created 1st Baronet Hoste [U.K.] on 21 September 1814.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.)3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica.1
