(Conservative) for Petersfield between 1951 and 1960.² He held the office of Member of Hampshire County Council between 1954 and 1955.² He was Captain, Yeomen of the Guard between 1960 and 1962.² He succeeded as the 4th Baron Newton, of Newton-in-Makerfield, co.      Richard Thomas Legh, 5th Baron Newton was born on 11 January 1950.¹ He is the son of Major Peter Richard Legh, 4th Baron Newton and Priscilla Egerton-Warburton.¹ He married Rosemary Whitfoot Clarke, daughter of Herbert Whitfoot Clarke, on 19 May 1978.¹
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.¹ He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.¹ He was a practising solicitor.¹ He succeeded as the 5th Baron Newton, of Newton-in-Makerfield, co. Lancaster [U.K., 1892] on 16 June 1992.¹

     Hon. David Piers Carlis Legh was born on 21 November 1951.¹ He is the son of Major Peter Richard Legh, 4th Baron Newton and Priscilla Egerton-Warburton.¹ He married Jane Mary Bee, daughter of John Roy Wynter Bee, on 20 July 1974.¹
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.¹ He was educated at Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (F.R.I.C.S.)¹ In 1985 he was granted the rank of an earl’s younger son.²

     Rosemary Whitfoot Clarke is the daughter of Herbert Whitfoot Clarke.¹ She married Richard Thomas Legh, 5th Baron Newton, son of Major Peter Richard Legh, 4th Baron Newton and Priscilla Egerton-Warburton, on 19 May 1978.¹
     From 19 May 1978, her married name became Legh. After her marriage, Rosemary Whitfoot Clarke was styled as Baroness Newton in 1992.

     John Roundell Palmer, 4th Earl of Selborne was born on 24 March 1940.¹ He was the son of Major William Matthew Palmer, Viscount Wolmer and Priscilla Egerton-Warburton.² He married Joanna Van Antwerp James, daughter of Evan Maitland James and Joan MacMurray, on 19 December 1969.¹ He died on 12 February 2021 at age 80.³

     She graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)² She graduated with a Master of Arts (M.A.)² From 19 December 1969, her married name became Palmer. After her marriage, Joanna Van Antwerp James was styled as Countess of Selborne on 3 September 1971.

     Evan Maitland James was born on 14 January 1911.² He was the son of Arthur Godfrey James and Helen Maitland.² He married Joan MacMurray, daughter of John V. MacMurray, on 9 September 1939.²
