Sir Richard Strachey1 
Sir Richard Strachey was born on 24 July 1817.1 He was the son of Edward Strachey and Julia Woobine Kirkpatrick.1,3 He married, firstly, Caroline Anne Bowles, daughter of Reverend George Downing Bowles and Anne Stillingfleet, on 27 December 1854.3 He married, secondly, Jane Maria Grant, daughter of Sir John Peter Grant, 11th of Rothiemurchus and Henrietta Isabella Phillipa Chichele Plowden, on 4 January 1859 at Calcutta, India.3 He died on 12 February 1908 at age 90.1
He held the office of Member of the Council of State [India] between 1875 and 1889.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.)3 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the Royal Engineers, Bengal.3 He graduated with a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.)1 He was appointed Knight Grand Commander, Order of the Star of India (G.C.S.I.)1
