     James fitzThomas FitzGerald also went by the nick-name of The Sugàn Earl (or in English, the Earl of Straw.)⁴ He was styled as 15th Earl of Desmond, despite the attainder of 1582 passed against the 14th Earl.²

     Barbara Bridgetina Mooyaart was born on 20 February 1789 at Sri Lanka.^1,3 She was the daughter of Gualterus Mooyaart and Antonia Theodora Lebeck.^4,3 She married Charles Edward Layard, son of Very Rev. Charles Peter Layard and Elizabeth Ward, on 9 December 1804.⁴ She died on 20 September 1845 at age 56 at Sri Lanka.^4,3
