Walter Butler, 11th Earl of Ormonde 
In 1596 he helped suppress Tyrone’s uprising.1 He was appointed Knight in January 1597/98.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Tipperary [Ireland] from 1613 to 1614.1 He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Ormonde [I., 1328] on 22 November 1614.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Ossory [I., 1528] on 22 November 1614.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Thurles [I., 1536] on 22 November 1614.1 From 11 June 1619 to March 1624/25 he was imprisoned for declining to acquiesce in King James I’s judgement that the lion’s share of the family estates should go to the 10th Earl of Ormonde’s daughter, Elizabeth, Lady Dingwall.1 He lived at Kilcash, County Kilkenny, IrelandG.3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4
