William Brereton, 1st Baron Brereton of Leighlin1 
Circa 1586 he built ‘the Hall’ at Brereton.2 He was appointed Knight on 1 May 1588 at Flushing, EnglandG, by the Earl of Leicester.2 He was created 1st Baron Brereton of Leighlin, co. Carlow [Ireland] on 11 May 1624.3

Donough O’Brien, 3rd Earl of Thomond1 
Donough O’Brien, 3rd Earl of Thomond also went by the nick-name of ‘The Great Earl’.1 He supported the English ascendancy.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron of Ibracken [I., 1543] in January 1590/91.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Thomond [I., 1552] in January 1590/91.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1603.1 He held the office of Lord President of Munster between 1605 and 1624.1

Gerald FitzGerald, 1st/11th Earl of Kildare also went by the nick-name of ‘The Wizard Earl’.1 He held the office of Master of Horse to Cosimo de’ Medici, Duca di Firence.1 He was appointed Knight circa 1552.1 In 1552 his estates were restored to him.1 He was created 1st Earl of Kildare [Ireland] on 13 May 1554.1 He was created 1st Baron of Offaly [Ireland] on 13 May 1554.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Kildare in 1556.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Dublin in 1556.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in March 1557/58.1 He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Kildare [I., 1316] on 23 February 1568/69, restored by Act of Parliament.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2

Mabel Browne1 
Mabel Browne was born in 1528. She was the daughter of Sir Anthony Browne and Alice Gage.1 She married Gerald FitzGerald, 1st/11th Earl of Kildare, son of Gerald FitzGerald, 9th Earl of Kildare and Lady Elizabeth Grey, on 28 May 1554.1 She died on 25 August 1610.1
From 28 May 1554, her married name became FitzGerald. After her marriage, Mabel Browne was styled as Countess of Kildare on 28 May 1554.
