     Captain O. S. W. Hawkins gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.¹

     Janet Cuninghame was the daughter of William Cuninghame, 4th Earl of Glencairn.¹ She married Robert Fergusson, 7th of Craigdarroch, son of Thomas Fergusson, 6th of Craigdarroch and unknown daughter Crichton.¹ She died in December 1574.¹
     Her married name became Fergusson.¹

     William Cuninghame, 4th Earl of Glencairn was born circa 1493.¹ He was the son of Cuthbert Cuninghame, 3rd Earl of Glencairn and Lady Marion Douglas.² He married, firstly, Catherine Borthwick, daughter of Sir William Borthwick, 2nd Lord Borthwick and unknown wife (?), before 10 July 1509.² He married, secondly, Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of John Campbell, after January 1535/36.¹ He died in March 1547/48.¹
     He was appointed Knight in 1509.¹ He held the office of High Treasurer of Scotland between June 1526 and October 1526.¹ He held the office of Scottish Envoy to France in 1538.¹ He was an enthusiastic Protestant.¹ He succeeded as the 4th Lord Kilmaurs [S., 1464] circa 1541.¹ He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Glencairn [S., 1488] circa 1541.¹ He fought in the Battle of Solway Moss in 1542, where he was captured by the English, but was ransomed.¹ He held the office of Scotish Ambassador to England in 1543, sent to negotiate peace with the English, but he was bribed by them to accept favourable terms.¹ In 1544 He reneged on his terms with the English. and was pardoned by the Scots Parliament.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1545.¹ He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of Nationary Biography.³
     

     Roger Babbington Hill is the son of Commander Harold Babington Hill.² He married, firstly, Jennifer Mary Dallas, daughter of Major Ronald James Grant Dallas and Sylvia Rosemary Cubitt, in 1987.¹ He and Jennifer Mary Dallas were divorced before 1995. He married, secondly, Lady Virginia Mary Elizabeth FitzRoy, daughter of Hugh Denis Charles FitzRoy, 11th Duke of Grafton and Ann Fortune Smith, on 4 August 1995 at Exeter, Devon, England^G.^2,3

     General William Schaw Cathcart, 1st Earl Cathcart was born on 17 September 1755 at Petersham, Surrey, England^G.³ He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Charles Schaw Cathcart, 9th Lord Cathcart and Jane Hamilton.⁴ He was baptised on 15 October 1755.³ He married Elizabeth Elliot, daughter of Andrew Elliot and Elizabeth Plumstead, on 10 April 1779 at New York, U.S.A.^G.⁵ He died on 16 June 1843 at age 87 at Gartside Cottage, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.⁵ His will was proven (by probate) in July 1843.⁵ He was buried at Paisley Abbey, Scotland^G.⁶
     He was educated between 1766 and 1771 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.^1,3 He was educated at Dresden, Sachsen, Germany^G.⁶ He matriculated at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G, in 1772.⁶ He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in November 1775.³ He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in February 1776.¹ He succeeded as the 10th Lord Cathcart [S., c. 1452] on 14 August 1776.¹ He was commissioned in 1777, in the service of the 7th Dragoons.¹ He gained the rank of Major in 1779 in the 98th Regiment.¹ He was QMG of the Forces to America

between 1779 and 1780.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1781 in the Coldstream Guards.¹ He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1788 and 1843.¹ He held the office of Chairman of the Committees of the House of Lords between 1790 and 1794.³ He was Colonel of the 29th Foot between 1792 and 1797.¹ He gained the rank of Major-General in 1794.¹ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire between 1794 and 1803.³ He held the office of Vice-Admiral of Scotland between 1795 and 1843.³ He fought in the Battle of Buren on 8 January 1795.³ He was Colonel of the 2nd Life Guards between August 1797 and 1843.³ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 28 September 1798.³ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1801.¹ He was Commander-in-Chief of the forces in ireland between 1803 and 1805.³ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) Renfrew [U.K.] on 9 November 1807.¹ He gained the rank of General in 1812.¹ He held the office of Ambassador to Russia between 1812 and 1820.¹ He was appointed Knight, Order of St. Anne of Russia on 30 September 1813.³ He was appointed Knight, Order of St. George of Russia on 30 September 1813 4th Class.³ He was Joint Minister Plenipotentiary to the Congress of Vienna between 1814 and 1815.¹ He was appointed Knight, Order of St. Andrew of Russia on 6 May 1814.³ He was created 1st Earl Cathcart [U.K.] on 16 July 1814.¹ He held the office of Governor of Hull between 1830 and 1843.⁵ He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.⁷
     

     Elizabeth Elliot was the daughter of Andrew Elliot and Elizabeth Plumstead.^1,2 She married General William Schaw Cathcart, 1st Earl Cathcart, son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Charles Schaw Cathcart, 9th Lord Cathcart and Jane Hamilton, on 10 April 1779 at New York, U.S.A.^G.³ She died on 14 December 1847 at Cathcart House, Renfrewshire, Scotland^G.³ She died intestate and her estate was administered in July 1848.³
     Her married name became Cathcart. She held the office of Lady of the Bedchamber to the younger Princesses between 1793 and 1798.³ After her marriage, Elizabeth Elliot was styled as Viscountess Cathcart on 9 November 1807. After her marriage, Elizabeth Elliot was styled as Countess Cathcart on 16 July 1814.

     Andrew Elliot was the son of Sir Gilbert Elliot of Minto, 2nd Bt. and Helen Steuart.^2,3 He married Elizabeth Plumstead.² He died in May 1797.
     He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of New York.³ He lived at Greenwells, Roxburghshire, Scotland^G.³

     Elizabeth Plumstead married Andrew Elliot, son of Sir Gilbert Elliot of Minto, 2nd Bt. and Helen Steuart.¹
     Her married name became Elliot.¹

     Sir Gilbert Elliot of Minto, 2nd Bt. was the son of Sir Gilbert Elliot of Headshaw, 1st Bt. and Jean Carre.² He married Helen Steuart, daughter of Sir Robert Steuart of Allanbank, 1st Bt. and Helen Cockburn, in 1720.² He died on 16 April 1766.
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Elliot, of Headshaw [N.S., 1700] on 1 May 1718.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Roxburghshire between 1722 and 1726.² He held the office of Lord of Session in 1726.² He was styled as Lord Minto [Scottish Law Lord] in 1726.² He held the office of Lord of Justiciary in 1733.² He held the office of Lord Justice Clerk in 1763.²

     Helen Steuart was the daughter of Sir Robert Steuart of Allanbank, 1st Bt. and Helen Cockburn.^1,2 She married Sir Gilbert Elliot of Minto, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Gilbert Elliot of Headshaw, 1st Bt. and Jean Carre, in 1720.¹ She died on 22 June 1774.¹
     Her married name became Elliot.
