John Erskine, 23rd/6th Earl of Mar was born in 1675.2 He was the son of Charles Erskine, 22nd/5th Earl of Mar and Lady Mary Maule.1 He married, firstly, Lady Margaret Hay, daughter of Thomas Hay, 7th Earl of Kinnoull and Hon. Margaret Drummond, on 6 April 1703.3 He married, secondly, Lady Frances Pierrepont, daughter of Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull and Lady Mary Feilding, on 20 July 1714.1 He died in May 1732 at Aachen, GermanyG.1
He succeeded as the 11th Lord Erskine [S., 1438] on 23 May 1689.1 He succeeded as the 6th Earl of Mar [S., 1565] on 23 May 1689.1 He succeeded as the 23rd Earl of Mar [S., c. 1115] on 23 May 1689.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)
