Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford was born on 5 December 1661 at Bow Street, London, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Sir Edward Harley and Abigail Stephens.3,2 He married, secondly, Sarah Middleton, daughter of Simon Middleton.4 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Foley, daughter of Thomas Foley and Elizabeth Ashe, on 14 May 1685. He died on 21 May 1724 at age 62 at Albemarle Street, St. George Hanover Square, London, EnglandG.3
He was created 1st Earl of Oxford on 23 May 1711. He was created 1st Baron Harley, of Wigmore, co. Hereford on 23 May 1711. He was created Earl Mortimer on 23 May 1711. He held the office of Lord High Treasurer of Great Britain.
