General Sir Horace Lockwood Smith-Dorrien 

General Sir Horace Lockwood Smith-Dorrien was born on 26 May 1858 at Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.2,3 He was the son of Robert Algernon Smith-Dorrien and Mary Ann Drever.2,3 He married Olive Crofton Schneider, daughter of John Henry Augustus Schneider and Mary Elizabeth Crofton, on 3 September 1902.3 He died on 12 August 1930 at age 72.4
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.3 He was commissioned in 1877, in the service of the 95th Foot.3 He fought in the Zulu War in 1879.3 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.3 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1886.5 He fought in the Battle of Omdurman in 1898.3 He fought in the Boer War between 1898 and 1902.3 He fought in the Major-General in 1901.3 He was Adjutant-General, India between 1901 and 1903.3 He was commander of the 4th Division, Quetta between 1903 and 1907.3 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp General to King George V in 1910.3 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Command between 1912 and 1914.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1913.5 He was commander of the 2nd Corps in 1914 at Mons.3 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.3 He was commander of the 2nd Army in 1915.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1915.5 He was awarded the Officier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.3 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar between 1918 and 1923.3
