     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.² He was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England^G.² He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England^G.² He gained the rank of officer in the 8th and 15th Hussars.² He fought in the Second Afghan War between 1879 and 1880.² He fought in the Ashanti War in 1881.² He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.² He fought in the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir at Tel-el-Kebir, Sudan, where he was wounded. He gained the rank of Captain in 1892 in the Derbyshire Yeomanry.² He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in January 1896.² He held the office of Chief Constable of Derbyshire between September 1897 and 1916.² He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1905.²

     Edith Jane Holland was born at Dumbleton Hall, Evesham, Worcestershire, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of Edward Holland and Maria Frances Christian.¹ She died in 1889 at Cannes, France^G.¹

     Emma Barrett was born in 1848.¹ She was the daughter of Captain Samuel Goodin Barrett and Susanna Maria Bell.¹ She married Sir Lindsay Wood, 1st Bt., son of Nicholas Wood and Maria Lindsay.
     Her married name became Wood.¹

     Major Ewan Loder Christian was born on 11 June 1936.² He is the son of S/Ldr. George Maitland Christian and Barbara Ellaline Joy Loder.¹ He married Elizabeth Iola Scott Thomas, daughter of Commander William Scott Thomas, on 25 August 1962.¹
