He succeeded as the 8th Baronet Macdonald, of Sleat, in the Isle of Skye, co. Inverness [N.S., 1625] on 23 November 1746.1 He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 9 May 1759.1 He was an accomplished scholar and mathematician, known as “The Marcellus of the North.”1 Pope Clement XII gave him a public funeral, even though he was a Protestant.1
