Algernon Capell, 2nd Earl of Essex was born on 28 December 1670.1 He was the son of Arthur Capell, 1st Earl of Essex and Lady Elizabeth Percy.1 He married Lady Mary Bentinck, daughter of Hans William Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland and Anne Villiers, on 28 February 1691/92.1 He died on 10 January 1710 at age 39.1
He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Capell of Hadham, co. Hereford [E., 1641] on 13 July 1683.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Essex [E., 1661] on 13 July 1683.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Malden, co. Essex [E., 1661] on 13 July 1683.1 He held the office of Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King William III between 1691 and 1702.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland between 1692 and 1710.1 He was Colonel of the 4th Dragoons between 1693 and 1710.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1701/2.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1704.1 He held the office of Constable of the Tower of London between 1706 and 1710.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1708.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1708.1
