He fought in the Battle of Edgehill, as a ‘Valiant Colonel.3‘ He was appointed Knight on 1 October 1642 at Shrewsbury, Shropshire, EnglandG.3 He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 1 November 1642 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He held the office of Governor of Newark, Nottinghamshire.1 He held the office of Governor of Appleby Castle, Westmorland.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Byron of Rochdale, co. Lancaster [E., 1643] in August 1652.1
