David Carnegie, 4th Earl of Northesk was born in 1675.1 He was the son of David Carnegie, 3rd Earl of Northesk and Lady Elizabeth Lindsay.2 A contract for the marriage of David Carnegie, 4th Earl of Northesk and Lady Margaret Wemyss was signed on 29 January 1697.2 He died on 14 January 1729.2
He succeeded as the 4th Lord Rosehill and Eglismauldie [S., 1639] on 3 October 1688.2 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Northesk [S., 1647] on 3 October 1688.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1698.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Forfar in 1702.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1702.2 He held the office of Commissioner of Treasury [Scotland] between 1705 and 1708.2 He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotalnd] between 1708 and 1715.2 He was Commissioner of Trade and Manufacturers in 1711.2
