He gained the rank of Colonel in the Lancashire Hussars Yeomanry Cavalry.2 He succeeded as the 13th Baronet Gerard, of Bryn, co. Palatine of Lancaster [E., 1611] on 21 February 1854.2 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Victoria.2 He was created 1st Baron Gerard of Bryn, co. Palatine of Lancaster [U.K.] on 18 January 1876.2

Barbara Villiers was born in 1653.2 She was the daughter of Sir Edward Villiers and Lady Frances Howard.3,1 She married John Berkeley, 4th Viscount Fitzhardinge of Berehaven, son of Charles Berkeley, 2nd Viscount Fitzhardinge of Berehaven and Penelope Godolphin. She died on 19 September 1708.3
