He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 13 February 1758 in the Royal Navy.1,2 He gained the rank of Commander on 4 May 1761.1,2 He gained the rank of Post Captain on 28 October 1762.1,2 He gained the rank of Commodore in 1781.1 He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) Queenborough in 1784.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Queensborough between 1784 and 1790.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral of the White in 1790.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral of the Red in April 1794.1 He fought in the Glorious First on 1 June 1794, where he lost a leg, and distinguished himself.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral of the Blue in July 1794.1 He was created 1st Baronet Bowyer, of Radley, co. Berks [Great Britain] on 8 September 1794.1 He was Berkshire (an estate inherited from his uncle Sir James Stonhouse in 1795.3 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral of the Red in 1795.1 On 1 January 1795 he inherited the estate of Radley, Berkshire from his cousin Penelope Stonehouse, Baroness Rivers.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Blue in February 1799.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Bowyer, of Denham, co. Margaret Price was the daughter of Reverend unknown Price.1 She married, firstly, Sir Jacob Garrard Downing, 4th Bt. before 1768.1 She married, secondly, Admiral Sir George Bowyer, 1st/5th Bt., son of Sir William Bowyer, 3rd Bt. and Anne Stonhouse, on 11 November 1768 at Putney, Surrey, EnglandG.1 She died on 18 September 1778 at Mount Pleasant, Putney, Surrey, EnglandG.1 She was buried at Croyden, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 She died intestate and her estate was administered to without issue on 22 February 1781.1
