Sir Philip Anstruther-Paterson, 3rd Bt.1 
He was given the name of Philip Anstruther of that Ilk at birth.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Anstruther-Easter Burghs between 1774 and 1777.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 1st Dragoon Guards.2 In 1782 his name was legally changed to Philip Anstruther-Paterson.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)3 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Anstruther, of Anstruther and of Elie House, co. Fife [N.S., 1700] on 4 July 1799.1

Anne Paterson1 
From 19 February 1778, her married name became Anstruther.2 From 1782, her married name became Anstruther-Paterson.1 She succeeded as the 4th Lady Polwarth [S., 1690] on 10 January 1794, de jure.2 In 1818 claimed title of Lady Polwarth but died before it was confirmed.2 She was styled as Baroness Polwarth in 1818.1

He gained the title of 3rd Baronet Paterson, of Eccles, co. Berwick.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Berwickshire from 1779 to 1780.2

Sir John Anstruther of that Ilk, 4th and 1st Bt.1 
He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn on 12 February 1774.1 He was an Advocate on 30 July 1774.1 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1779 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Anstruther-Easter Burghs between 1783 and 1790.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cockermouth between 1790 and 1796.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Anstruther-Easter Burghs between 1796 and 1796.1 He held the office of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Bengal between 1796 and 1806.1 He was appointed Knight on 4 October 1797.1 He was created 1st Baronet Anstruther, of Fort William, Bengal [Great Britain] on 18 May 1798.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Anstruther-Easter Burghs between 1806 and 1811.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 19 November 1806.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Anstruther, of Anstruther and of Elie House, co. Fife [N.S., 1700] on 5 January 1808.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 3 July 1810.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2

Sir Windham Carmichael-Anstruther, 7th and 4th Bt.1 
He was educated in 1808 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of officer in the Coldstream Guards.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1831 in the Lanark Militia.1 He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Anstruther, of Anstruther and of Elie House, co. Fife [N.S., 1700] in November 1831, and from 1817 ‘of Carmichael and Westraw, co. Lanark.1‘ He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Anstruther, of Fort William, Bengal [G.B., 1798] in November 1831.1 After succeeding to the estates, he became “inextricably involved, and at length, after many years, succeeded in breaking the entail of his Anstruther estates, and sold them in 1856, together with the mansion of Elie House, to the brothers Baird [for £145,000].”1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lanarkshire.3
