Timothy Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 16th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne was born on 18 March 1918.1 He was the son of Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 15th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Dorothy Beatrix Godolphin Osborne.1 He married Mary Bridget Brennan, daughter of Peter Brennan, on 18 June 1958.1 He died on 13 September 1972 at age 54.1
He was educated at Stowe School, Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, England.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Black Watch.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baron Bowes of Streatlam Castle, co. Durnam, and of Lunedale, co. York [U.K., 1887] on 25 May 1949.1 He succeeded as the 16th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne [S., 1677] on 25 May 1949.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne [U.K., 1937] on 25 May 1949.1 He succeeded as the 23rd Lord Glamis [S., 1445] on 25 May 1949.1 He succeeded as the 16th Lord Lyon and Glamis [S., 1606] on 25 May 1949.1

Mary Bridget Brennan was the daughter of Peter Brennan. She married Timothy Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 16th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, son of Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 15th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Dorothy Beatrix Godolphin Osborne, on 18 June 1958.1 She died on 8 September 1967.1
After her marriage, Mary Bridget Brennan was styled as Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne on 18 June 1958. From 18 June 1958, her married name became Bowes-Lyon.
