Air Marshal Sir John Tremayne Babington was born on 20 July 1891.1 He was the son of Charles Hagart Babington and Grace Damaris Matilda Tremayne.1 He married Cecily Henriette Beresford-Hope, daughter of Philip Beresford-Hope and Evelyn Frost, in 1916.3 He died on 20 March 1979 at age 87 at Bodmin, Cornwall, England.1,4
He was given the name of John Tremayne Babington at birth.3 He fought in the First World War.3 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1915.1 He was awarded the Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.3 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1934.1 He fought in the Second World War.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1939.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1942.1 He gained the rank of Air Vice-Marshal in the Royal Air Force.3 On 12 January 1945 his name was legally changed to John Tremayne Tremayne.3 He held the office of High Sheriff of Cornwall.1
