Admiral Sir Augustus William James Clifford, 1st Bt.1 
Admiral Sir Augustus William James Clifford, 1st Bt. was born illegitimately on 26 May 1788.1 He was the son of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire and Lady Elizabeth Christiana Hervey.1 He married Lady Elizabeth Frances Townshend, daughter of Rt. Hon. Lord John Townshend and Georgina Ann Poyntz, on 20 October 1813.1 He died on 8 February 1877 at age 88 at London, England.1
He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 8 October 1815.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bandon Bridge between 1818 and 1820.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dungarvon between 1820 and 1822.2 He was appointed Knight on 4 August 1830.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bandon Bridge from 1831 to 1832.2 He held the office of Gentlemen Ushers of the Black Rod between 1832 and 1877.2 He was created 1st Baronet Clifford [U.K.] on 4 August 1838. He gained the rank of Admiral in 1864.2
