He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.2 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Portarlington between 1798 and 1800.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Galway in 1799.2 He held the office of Ranger of Phoenix Park.2 He was Commissioner of of Taxes and Excise in 1810.2 He held the office of Under-Secretary for Ireland in 1813.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1831.2 He was twice offered a baronetcy.2 He lived at Coole, County Galway, Ireland.2
