     Lady Harriet Anne Gertrude Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound was the daughter of Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 2nd Earl of Minto and Mary Brydone.¹ She died on 9 February 1855.¹

     John Portal was born on 29 April 1764.¹ He was the son of Joseph Portal and Sarah Peachey.² He married, firstly, Mary Corrie, daughter of John Corrie, on 6 October 1794.¹ He married, secondly, Elizabeth Drummond, daughter of Henry Drummond and Hon. Anne Dundas, on 1 August 1815.¹ He died on 7 May 1848 at age 84.¹
     They also had three sons and two other daughters who died young.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹ They also had another son who died young.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)¹ He lived at Laverstoke, Hampshire, England^G.¹ He lived at Freefolk Priory, Freefolk, Hampshire, England^G.¹

     Elizabeth Drummond was the daughter of Henry Drummond and Hon. Anne Dundas.^1,2 She married John Portal, son of Joseph Portal and Sarah Peachey, on 1 August 1815.² She died on 21 May 1877.²
     From 1 August 1815, her married name became Portal.² They also had another son who died young.²

     Mary Corrie was the daughter of John Corrie.¹ She married John Portal, son of Joseph Portal and Sarah Peachey, on 6 October 1794.² She died in 1813.²
     From 6 October 1794, her married name became Portal.² They also had three sons and two other daughters who died young.²

     John Corrie lived at Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, England.¹

     Lieutenant Robert Portal was born on 7 November 1820.¹ He was the son of John Portal and Elizabeth Drummond. He married Eliza Charlotte Taylor, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Unknown Taylor, in February 1856.¹ He died on 24 December 1888 at age 68.¹
     He fought in the Crimean War.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the 4th Light Dragoons.¹ He fought in the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854, and was in the Charge of the Light Brigade. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 5th Lancers.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.¹ He lived at Ashe Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England^G.¹

     Eliza Charlotte Taylor was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Unknown Taylor.² She married Lieutenant Robert Portal, son of John Portal and Elizabeth Drummond, in February 1856.¹ She died on 19 July 1902.¹
     From February 1856, her married name became Portal.¹

     Maj.-Gen. Unknown Taylor was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)¹ He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Sandhurst.¹ He lived at Ogwell, Devon, England^G.¹

     Sir Wyndham Spencer Portal, 1st Bt. was born on 22 July 1822.³ He was the son of John Portal and Elizabeth Drummond. He married Mary Jane Beach, daughter of William Beach and Jane Henrietta Browne, on 19 April 1849.³ He died on 14 September 1905 at age 83.³
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England^G.³ He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England^G.³ He gained the rank of Captain between 1842 and 1865 in the Hampshire Yeomanry.³ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)³ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Hampshire.³ He was vice-chairman and chairman of the London and South Western Railway between 1875 and 1900.³ He was created 1st Baronet Portal, of Malshanger, Church Oakley, co. Southampton [U.K.] on 11 March 1901.^1,3

     Mary Jane Beach was the daughter of William Beach and Jane Henrietta Browne.² She married Sir Wyndham Spencer Portal, 1st Bt., son of John Portal and Elizabeth Drummond, on 19 April 1849.³ She died on 4 November 1903.³
     From 19 April 1849, her married name became Portal.³
