     John Price was born on 21 October 1808 at Gulval, Cornwall, England.2,3 He was the son of Sir Rose Price, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Lambart.1 He married May Franklin, daughter of Major Sir James Franklin, on 12 June 1838.2 He died on 27 March 1857 at age 48 at Williamstown, Victoria, AustraliaG, murdered by the convicts while on an official inspection.1
     He held the office of Chief Magistrate in Hobart, Tasmania between 1838 and 1846.2 He held the office of Civil Governor of Norfolk Island between 1846 and 1854.2 He was Inspector-General of the Penal Establishments of Australia between 1854 and 1857.2
