Arthur John Bigge, 1st and last Baron Stamfordham1 
Arthur John Bigge, 1st and last Baron Stamfordham was born on 18 June 1849.3 He was the son of Reverend John Frederick Bigge and Caroline Mary Ellison.3 He married Constance Neville, daughter of Reverend William Frederick Neville and Fanny Grace Blackwood, on 10 February 1881.3 He died on 24 April 1922 at age 72.3
He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1869 in the Royal Artillery.3 He fought in the Zulu War in 1879, where he was mentioned in despatches.3 He was Aide-de-Camp to Sir Evelyn Wood in 1879.3 In 1880 he was summoned to Balmoral Castle to explain to Queen Victoria the circumsatances of the Prince Imperial’s death in the Zulu War.3 He held the office of Groom-in-Waiting to HM Queen Victoria in 1880.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1885.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1887.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1892.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1895.3 He retired from the military in 1898.3 He held the office of Private Secretary to HM Queen Victoria.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1901.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1901.1 He was awarded the Imperial Service Order (I.S.O.) in 1903.1 He held the office of Private Secretary to HM King Edward VII.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Star of India (K.C.S.I.) in 1906.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Commander, Order of the Indian Empire (G.C.I.E.) in 1911.1 He gained the title of 1st Baron Stamfordham, of Stamfordham, co.
