Sir George Cooke, 7th Bt.1

Sir George Cooke, 7th Bt. was the son of Sir Bryan Cooke, 6th Bt. and Mary Foley.3 He married, firstly, Frances Jory Middleton, daughter of Sir John Lambert Middleton, 4th Bt. and Anne Hodges, in 1770.1 He married, secondly, unknown Farrer, daughter of James Farrer, after 1796.4 He died on 2 June 1823.4
He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Cooke, of Wheatley Hall, co. York [E., 1661] in 1769.4 He gained the rank of Colonel in the 3rd Battalion, West Yorkshire Militia.4

He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Crimean War between 1854 and 1855, and was seriously wounded at the Redan.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1862 in the Rifle Brigade.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1870.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Victoria in 1878.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1878.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)2 He gained the rank of Honorary Major-General in 1881.1 He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Blackett, of Newcastle, co. Northumberland [E., 1673] on 23 November 1885.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1889.1
