He was educated between 1883 and 1887 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Richmond between 1910 and 1918.3 He gained the rank of Major in the 4th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 5th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He succeeded as the 5th Baron Bolton of Bolton Castle, co. York [G.B., 1797] on 14 August 1922.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)3 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the North Riding, Yorkshire between 1935 and 1944.3 He was awarded the Coronation Medal in 1937.3
